The Heiress

The film is set in 1840-ies in new York. Catherine lives with her father, Dr. Kopera. Her mother died a few years before, and Dr. Sloper constantly compares her daughter with her, not in favor of the first. Catherine meets with Maurice Taunsendom, beautiful, but windy young man, and after some time he proposes to her. Dr. Sloper is sure that he wants to marry her for the inheritance, and opposes their marriage.
