"New times" is an emotional, self-comic vein, the response to distortions of the machine age. Little Tramp does not want to be a "cog" in a huge mega-machine of industrial production, and so like him in human society. Charlie fights with stupid rich, all-powerful police, soulless chiefs of the Assembly line. Sometimes he wins in these battles, but often loses, in the end, fearlessly goes to meet the dawn. Although the "New times" is considered the last silent film of Charlie Chaplin, in this Little Tramp for the first and last time found a voice. However, he did not speak, but sang in the final frames of the picture, symbolizing the farewell to the great period of silent cinema.
